ILLUSTRATION FRIDAY- CRACKED

The theme for the Illustration Friday for May 22 is "Cracked". The first image that came to mind was that of a cracked sidewalk causing a little kid to go sailing! I decided that it would be a good illustration to show movement and action. But I also wanted to add a story in the piece, otherwise it's just a picture of a girl tripping over the sidewalk. Once again, I drew the first thing that came to mind which was that this little kid is a wanna-be Wizard. I imagined that she's running towards a friends who needs a spell but quick! In so doing, she trips over the sidewalk, sending her side-kick companion (the frog), sailing through the air along with her glasses and book of spells. I'll post the watercolor final when it's done.

Thanks for a great challenge, Illustration Friday!

New Illo

I've been neglecting my blog! Horror of horrors, and I'm really so sorry! But I have a great excuse - I've been working like a mad man ...I mean mad woman to get some new pieces for my children's book portfolio. And this is my latest piece. I'm not even sure what inspired it. It was just one of those moments when the image flashed in my brain and hung out there a few days, begging to be brought to life with the magic of watercolor. I used some colored pencil to tighten up some edges and to add a bit of texture here and there. It's painted on Strathmore Cold Press. I use Holbein water colors and a tube or two of Senelier (my two favorite paints so far).
